Headline Details: OreSat0.5 is a 1.5U CubeSat that provides flight heritage for the attitude determination and control system (ADCS) of the modular, expandable, and open source OreSat bus. OreSat0.5 paves the way for OreSat1, a NASA CSLI program 2U CubeSat with a global climate science and STEM outreach mission. OreSat0.5 is the second CubeSat that is demonstrating the “OreSat bus”, a flexible, modular, and inexpensive educational CubeSat platform intended for students and amateurs to be able to build their own CubeSat. The bus is extendable from 1U to 3U, and is fully compliant to the CubeSat Design Specification Rev 13 (http://cubesat.org/). All details are provided on the OreSat website (http://oresat.org/) such that builders can rapidly get a compliant and highly scalable satellite constructed with minimal cost and risk. OreSat0.5’s mission is meant to extend the flight heritage of this system. This includes: 1. Demonstrating an open source Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS) meant to be specifically used for antenna and camera pointing on amateur radio satellites. 2. Demonstrating the “DxWiFi” S band 802.11b bidirectional radio system, proving that high speed (1 Mbps) S band communications can be done from amateur radio satellites. 3. Providing openly published high sample rate flight performance characteristics including power and thermal performance. 4. And of course, providing further flight heritage for the open source critical subsystems (radios, batteries, solar, etc), as well as openly published detailed performance data on the system. Proposing a UHF downlink with 20 wpm CW beacon, an 9k6 APRS AX25 downlink and 9kbs GMSK telemetry. Also an S Band downlink using spread spectrum DBPSK at 1M bit/sec for bulk data download. Planning a June 2022 launch into a 550km polar orbit on a Momentus ride share mission. **Downlinks on 436.500 MHz and 2422.000 MHz have been coordinated** ** Now advised to be a 2U CubeSat with a planned launch in June 2023 into a 525 km polar orbit. More info at https://github.com/oresat/ ** ** New launch date NET Oct 2023 into a 500km circular polar orbit**** Now planning 2U form factor and an Exolaunch deployment from SpaceX Transporter 11 mission NET 1st July 2024 into a 510 km SSO**
Application Date: 20 Dec 2021   Freq coordination completed on 17 Mar 2022
