Headline Details: ELFIN is a 3U CubeSat that will help understand the mechanisms responsible for electron and ion precipitation in Earth’s magnetosphere. The mission additionally has the goal of providing data to refine predictive models used for space weather forecasting. ELFIN is being designed to operate for ~2 years. The first 6 weeks of the mission consist of system checkouts. Following this period, ELFIN will spin-up to 20rpm to perform science operations for the remainder of the mission. At the mission conclusion, the spacecraft will be disabled and will deorbit after ~15 years. Planning a UHF 19k2 GFSK downlink using AX25. ELFIN is now part of ELaNa-18, the secondary mission for ICESat-2. **The Delta II is currently scheduled for an October/November 2017 launch. The preliminary orbit is 450km circular at 92 degrees inclination.** More info at http://elfin.igpp.ucla.edu/mission/ **A downlink on 437.450MHz has been coordinated** | ||||
