Headline Details: UTNH-SAT will transmit spacecraft telemetry using LoRa and a CW Morse beacon on 436.850 MHz. It will also provide an automatic LoRa ping-response service. Upon receiving a ping request from an amateur radio station, the satellite will transmit a reply containing the requesting station’s amateur radio callsign on the same frequency. Satellite telecommands will also be received using LoRa on 436.85 MHz. The educational mission includes an onboard radiation sensor that records radiation detection counts along the satellite’s orbit. These counts will be transmitted in the spacecraft telemetry to support educational activities exploring the local space radiation environment and its relationship to space weather. The reported measurements are detection counts, not calibrated radiation dose measurements. Amateur radio operators worldwide will be able to actively participate by transmitting LoRa ping requests to UTNH-SAT and receiving automatic replies containing their own callsigns. This activity will enable two-way communication experiments and practical learning about satellite radio links, beyond passive telemetry reception.
