Headline Details: A 3U CubeSat, the Perovskite Visuals and Degradation Experiment (PVDX) has two primary objectives: 1. Flight testing an open-source, low-cost UHF amateur satellite radio board built around the AT86RF215 transceiver chip. The design, developed by Brown University students, is inspired by the legacy OpenLST (TI CC1100) design. It will significantly reduce the cost-performance ratio of amateur satellite radios, and we hope to provide a well documented, free standing design that exploits current technology and can apply across a range of designs. 2. Further Brown Space Engineering’s educational outreach goals, providing a learning platform for concepts in spaceflight engineering and computer science for primary and secondary school students by allowing them to create pixel art using p5.js and receive back a picture of their art displayed on the side of the satellite with the Earth in the background, proving that space is reachable for anyone. 3. Test the degradation of novel perovskite solar cells developed by students at the Padture lab at Brown University via monitoring of their visual and IV curve characteristics. Proposing a UHF downlink using QPSK, 9600 bps information rate, 19200 bps channel rate, convolutional R=1/2 K=7 (CCSDS 171/133 octal, G2 inverted) and an S Band downlink with QPSK, 50,000 bps information rate, DVB-S2 LDPC + BCH R=1/2. Planning a Voyager Space launch from Cape Canaveral in 2027 into a 410 km 51.6 degree orbit More info at https://brownspace.io/projects
