Headline Details: HADES-L is an experimental satellite measuring 10 × 5 × 5 cm, with an average power generation of 175 mW. The satellite carries out the following experiments: 1: A communications transponder with an uplink at 28.472 MHz USB (3 kHz bandwidth) and a downlink at 436.665 MHz FM. No access tone is required. 2: Evaluation of an electrically short receiving antenna. An uplink power of 25 W is recommended. The receiver features automatic gain control (AGC); however, operators should avoid overdriving the uplink signal to prevent distortion. Operation of the transponder with either one voice channel or multiple simultaneous CW, FT4, or FT8 signals. The first Wednesday of each month is reserved for digital mode experiments.3: Digital voice beacon using CODEC2 with a constraint length of K = 7 and a convolutional FEC code rate of R = 1/2. 4: Measurement of the noise power at 30 MHz in the upper ionosphere to validate the link budget. During the last orbit of each day, the satellite records battery voltage, internal and external temperatures, signal and noise levels, and the time elapsed since the last reset. 5: Measurement of radiation (electrons, photons, and X-rays) in low Earth orbit (LEO) for material comparison. (Payload) 6: Validation of the energy management algorithm that enables all of these experiments. The transponder is active for 4 minutes every 12 minutes. All telemetry and experiment data are transmitted at 800 bps. The UHF transmitter automatically switches between +13 dBm and +20 dBm, depending on the battery charge level. With each mission, AMSAT-EA strives to introduce new challenges for the amateur radio community and to explore topics of technical interest. For this mission, one of the main challenges is the use of the 29 MHz band for the uplink, which is uncommon for amateur satellite communications. In addition, the results obtained from the evaluation of CODEC2 digital voice transmissions are expected to provide valuable information for operators and experimenters interested in digital communication modes. Proposing a UHF downlink for the FM voice repeater with an USB uplink on 29 MHz or 145 MHz and for 800 bps FSK telemetry.
