Headline Details: The overall goal of the 3UCubed-A mission is multifold: 1) To train undergraduates and others in skills and content knowledge related to satellite programs (including both the ground station and satellite systems and communications between the two). In cooperation with the Sonoma County Radio Amateur (SCRA) and the Marin Amateur Radio Society (MARS) club, and with the two Universities in New Hampshire and Northern California, students and families are learning more about radio communications, including getting amateur radio licenses. Additionally, Sonoma State University (SSU) is developing a partnership to engage the Scouts as well as the SSU undergraduates in helping to track and download data from this NASA-funded 3UCubed-A satellite with SCRA and MARS. 2) To contribute to an understanding of how Earth’s polar upper atmosphere (‘the thermosphere’ in the auroral and cusp regions) responds to particle precipitation and varying conditions associated with solar wind forcing and internal magnetospheric processes. We expect this to contribute to the amateur radio arts by increasing our understanding of how solar activity affects the ionosphere’s radio propagation properties. Proposing a UHF downlink using 2-GFSK at 9k6. Planning a SpaceX launch from Vandenberg Oct 2025 into a 510 km polar orbit. More info at https://eos.unh.edu/3ucubed | ||||
