Headline Details: Primary mission: • Deploy a 1 meter long inflatable UV curable boom “AeroBoom” from a 1U CubeSat in low-Earth orbit. • Photograph the deployed AeroBoom and transmit a clear picture back to earth. • Operate an AX.25 automatic digipeater for Amateur radio testing and communication purposes Secondary mission: • Measure attitude behavior of GASPACS to determine the effectiveness of the Aero-Boom to passively control the CubeSat. • Transmit down telemetry data in an open-source format for analysis by the GAS Team and Amateur radio operators. 5.5 Explain in plain text how your mission(s) complies with provisions no. 1.56, 1.57 and 25 (see Annex 1); how will your mission contribute to the advancement of the amateur satellite service; and how will amateur operators around the globe be able to participate in your mission, besides just receiving the satellite telemetry? • Our satellite will serve as an AX.25 digipeater, allowing amateurs to test their communication links with satellites. • We will schedule virtual events to show the global amateur community how our satellite communications work, answer questions, and share experiences. • Our ground station will serve as part of the free, open-source SATNOGS network, enabling amateur across the world to schedule observations for both our satellite and any other compatible satellites. • The project is part of a Physics research credit for undergraduate students at Utah State University, with students contributing to the project in exchange for class credit. • The satellite licensee is the trustee of the Utah State University Get Away Special Team amateur radio club. • All telemetry, data dictionaries, and equations will be open source and published to gas.usu.edu • All of the code that our satellite and ground station runs will be open source and published to Github (except telecommand encryption), allowing amateurs to use our knowledge and code for their own projects.
